Football Recap: Piggott Takes a Loss

Piggott played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Newport Greyhounds and fell 59-6. The Mohawks haven't had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Newport's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevion Greer, who rushed for 122 yards and three scores on only nine carries. Greer's longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Reynolds, who rushed for 58 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Piggott's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Piggott will venture away from home to square off against Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mohawks will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 41.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Newport, they are taking a road trip to face off against Rivercrest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Greyhounds will need to watch out since the Colts have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
