MaxPreps 2016-17 Central Coast Section high school boys basketball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Serra (San Mateo)

Head coach: Chuck Rapp
2015-16 record: 26-5

The Padres won a historic first state title in any sport last season, taking the Division I crown behind a gritty group of seniors. Rapp always has his teams in the hunt and with 7-foot junior Jack Wilson as his team's cornerstone, Serra should contend for more titles. Normally guard oriented, the Padres' challenge will be how to take advantage of Wilson, an Oregon State commit ranked the seventh-best junior post in the country.

2. Saint Francis (Mountain View)
Head coach: Mike Motil
2015-16 record: 25-3

The Lancers lost a lot to graduation, but Motil always has his squad competing for West Catholic Athletic League and Central Coast Section titles. This year's squad should be led by one of the top juniors in Northern California, 6-2 guard Logan Johnson, whose brother Tyler Johnson is a key reserve for the Miami Heat. He's also a Saint Francis graduate. Other key returners are 6-5 swingman Jacob Mihanovic, 6-4, 290-pound junior post Tyler Manoa and 6-6 senior power forward Eddie Diller.

3. Archbishop Mitty (San Jose)
Head coach: Tim Kennedy
2015-16 record: 15-14

A Monarchs won two state championships when Orlando Magic starter Aaron Gordon starred. Now Mitty should be in the CCS hunt thanks in part to the return of All-WCAL guard Riley Grigsby and 6-6 forward Mike Diaz. Mitty lost six games last season by four points or less. With nine players returning, the Monarchs should win those close games.

The Bells should return one of the best guard tandems in Northern California in junior Jake Wojcik and Angelo Athens, a pair of All-West Catholic Athletic League performers. Wojcik, whose father Dave is the head coach at San Jose State, was a first-team All-WCAL performer.

5. St. Ignatius (San Francisco)
Head coach: Rob Marcaletti
2015-16 record: 17-11

The Wildcats return a pair of standouts in Brandon Beckman and Darrion Trammell, who each grabbed All-WCAL honors last season as sophomores. Marcaletti should return 10 from last year's squad.
