Softball Recap: Waite Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Waite entered their tilt with Rogers on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Rams 22-11. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 29-14 back in April.

Destiny Garza was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off six hits. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Waite got a massive performance out of Jac Martinez, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Martinez continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cli Onyango-Doria, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Waite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .581 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Waite's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Rogers, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waite will host Port Clinton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.62 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rogers, they will challenge Lima Senior at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
