Softball Game Preview: Huntingdon Bearcats vs. Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders

The Huntingdon Bearcats will square off against the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Huntingdon's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Bishop Guilfoyle has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.

Huntingdon will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Clearfield, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bearcats walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Bison on Tuesday.

Alivia Nicklow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Kazmarski, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jailynn Sheffield, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Huntingdon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Bishop Guilfoyle's offense. They came up short against Penn Cambria on Tuesday, falling 15-0. The shutout was out of character for the Marauders seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Huntingdon's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
