Softball Recap: Haleyville Comes Up Short

Haleyville had lost 26 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-18 to make it 27. They fell 5-0 to the Lynn Bears. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

As for Lynn, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

For Lynn's part, the result came thanks to Maddie Brooke Rutledge's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Rutledge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lynn secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Dereka Bryan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Bryan has posted since back in March.

Looking ahead, Haleyville will be taking part in a tournament against Carbon Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lynn, they will challenge Cordova at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
