Recap: Cheraw Braves vs. Andrew Jackson Volunteers
The Cheraw Braves suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a rough 78-53 loss at the hands of Andrew Jackson. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cheraw in their matchups with Andrew Jackson: they've now lost six in a row.
Cheraw's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Carraway, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Carraway scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Strong, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Andrew Jackson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zeke Clyburn, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Clyburn has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Jy'Kevius Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with four steals.
Cheraw bumped their record down to 6-14 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Andrew Jackson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Coincidentally, Cheraw and Andrew Jackson will both be playing York Prep the next time they take the court. Andrew Jackson will host York Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Cheraw will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
