Baseball Recap: West Point Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Point ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Skyline Coyotes 6-5.

Kenyer Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because West Point is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-11-1 otherwise. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jacob Gonzalez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Hunter Gallinger also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

West Point's record now sits at 12-13-1. As for Skyline, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 15-12 record.

West Point has already played their next contest, an 8-0 loss against Desert Ridge on the 28th. As for Skyline, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-5 defeat against San Luis on the 28th.
