One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. A special shoutout goes to St. Mary's Ryken's sophomore Trevor Nored, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Can't Touch This
North Point's 41 - 14 win over St. Charles last week had a lot to do with the leadership of junior Corey Johnson. Johnson earned two touchdowns and 236 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Johnson as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between St. John's (2nd in the power rankings) and Our Lady of Good Counsel (3rd) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. St. John's had all the answers against Our Lady of Good Counsel, winning 31 - 10. Despite the outcome, neither team improved or gave up its position in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
Avalon not only got the result it was looking for last game, but the team outscored its opponent Loyola Blakefield in every quarter. Avalon kept its opponent Loyola Blakefield off the scoreboard entirely, winning the match 28 - 0. The victory took its toll on the QB, however, as he was sacked five times. Avalon's success was rewarded with a 11-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Georgetown Prep (13th in the power rankings) and Landon (8th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Only one team will win this week, so we'll find out which team fails to repeat its success.
