Softball Recap: Newark's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Newark waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Ashton-Franklin Center Raiders with a sharp 19-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Norsemen, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Newark got a massive performance out of Adelaide Johnson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs Johnson has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bailey Shutter, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Newark kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.

Newark pushed their record up to 16-14-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 19 of their last 20 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-28 record this season.

Newark will head out on the road to square off against Sandwich at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Rochelle at 10:00 a.m.
