Softball Game Preview: Clifton Central Comets vs. Momence Momence Athletics

Clifton Central has gone 9-1 against Momence recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Clifton Central will square off against Momence at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Clifton Central came up short against Wilmington on Wednesday, falling 22-5. The loss continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost seven in a row.

Anna Winkel was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Ella Ponton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Even though they lost, Clifton Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Momence had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 14-0 to Clifton Central on Tuesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Clifton Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-3-1. As for Momence, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Clifton Central took their victory against Momence when the teams last played on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clifton Central since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
