Basketball Game Preview: Summit Spartans vs. Independence Eagles

Summit is 2-8 against Independence since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Summit Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Independence Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Summit is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

Last Tuesday, Summit beat Nolensville 56-47.

Marty Philips continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 22 points. That's the most points he has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Coverston, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Independence came up short against Brentwood on Tuesday and fell 67-54.

Independence has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Summit, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Summit took a serious blow against Independence in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 70-37. Can Summit avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
