Basketball Recap: Judson Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Bethel Assembly Christian Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Christ Covenant, Northeast Academy was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-35 win over Bethel Assembly Christian Academy. This was a revenge game for Northeast Academy: when they faced off against Bethel Assembly Christian Academy last Friday, they had to take a 53-41 loss.

Northeast Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Judson Smith out in front who went 12-for-26 to rack up 25 points and five rebounds. Those 25 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Taylor, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Northeast Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Bethel Assembly Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Easton Hobbs dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards set a new season-high mark for Hobbs. Jack Johnson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Northeast Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Bethel Assembly Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Northeast Academy will challenge Christ Covenant at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bethel Assembly Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Coastal Brigade at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethel Assembly Christian Academy's defense better be ready for this one: Coastal Brigade has averaged an impressive 59.9 points per game this season.
