Baseball Recap: El Camino Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

El Camino had to endure a nine-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jefferson Grizzlies a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The Colts' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Carlos Alcala was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Alcala was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Nicholas Jang was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Mikealo Osorio was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

El Camino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

El Camino's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Jefferson, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, El Camino will be playing at home against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so El Camino's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Jefferson, they will take on Summit Shasta at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson has given up an average of 14.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
