Softball Game Preview: Northlake Christian Wolverines vs. Loranger Wolves

Northlake Christian is 9-1 against Loranger since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wolverines will square off against the Wolves at 5:00 p.m. Northlake Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Northlake Christian barely beat Haynes Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines blew past Haynes Academy 11-1 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Abigail Willie made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Willie was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Evie Burns, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sara Davis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Loranger came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Ascension Christian.

Loranger's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northlake Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season.

Northlake Christian might still be hurting after the 17-4 defeat they got from Loranger in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
