Softball Game Preview: Airport Jets vs. Linden Eagles

The Airport Jets will square off against the Linden Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Friday, Airport needed a bit of extra time to put away Riverview. They skirted past the Pirates 4-3. The Jets haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Linden faced Lake Fenton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Blue Devils since April 23, 2021.

Kayla Widner (2025) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Helm (2025), who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.

Linden's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Airport, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6.

Everything went Airport's way against Linden in their previous meeting on Sunday, as Airport made off with a 15-3 win. Do the Jets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
