Softball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland lost against River Valley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Fighting Scots fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-3.

Saylor Squires spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dalaynie Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Shaffer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Vikings beat Highland by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday.
