Nixon is 8-2 against Martin since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Mustangs will challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Nixon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Nixon was handed a 11-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Mission Veterans Memorial 17-16. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the game before.
Jimena Ibarra was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Ibarra was even better at the plate, firing off four runs, three doubles, and one triple while getting on base in six of her eight plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Nixon got a massive performance out of Delaney Guevara, who went 3-for-8 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Guevara a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kivana Hernandez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-7.
Nixon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Martin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 25th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Rio Grande City, falling 17-0.
Martin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexandria Soler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That hit was Soler's first of the season.
Nixon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Martin, their loss dropped their record down to 0-24.
Nixon's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Martin, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Nixon continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Nixon's way against Martin when the teams last played back in March, as Nixon made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
