Preview: Warrensburg Burgers vs. Fort Ann Cardinals
Warrensburg is 1-9 against Fort Ann since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Warrensburg Burgers will head out on the road to square off against the Fort Ann Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Warrensburg unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 63-49 bruising from Corinth.
Despite their loss, Warrensburg saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Steve Schloss, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Schloss hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Lapell, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Warrensburg struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Ann's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a hard 65-47 fall against Lake George. While losing is never fun, Fort Ann can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 759th, while Lake George is ranked 258th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kadynce Cutter, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Javier Hernandez, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Warrensburg's record now sits at 10-5. Fort Ann's record is now 2-10.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Warrensburg hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.3 points per game. It's a different story for Fort Ann, though, as they've been averaging only 33.6 points per game. The only thing between Warrensburg and another offensive beatdown is Fort Ann. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Warrensburg was able to grind out a solid win over Fort Ann in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 50-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warrensburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
