Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Hoover). They claimed a resounding  88-51 victory over the Nicholas County Grizzlies. Given the Huskies' advantage  in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings  (they are ranked 29th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 90th), the result  on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
 Hoover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but  Riley Johnson led the charge by  putting up 20  points. That's the most points  Johnson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was  Dane Hatfield, who  had 24  points.

The  win (which was Hoover's third in a row) raised their record to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for Nicholas County, they have  traveled a rocky road recently having  lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record  this season.
 Hoover wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next  match,  a  59-44  defeat against Nitro on the 18th. As for Nicholas County, they also  didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next  contest,  a  54-41  victory against Roane County on the 18th.
