Softball Recap: Monterey Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

After only one run in their last matchup, Monterey made sure to put some runs up on the board against Smith County on Tuesday. The Wildcats never let the Owls get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Wildcats have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexandrea Novak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haylee Garthwait, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Haylee Trevathan, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Monterey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Monterey is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Smith County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-4.
