Softball Game Preview: Houghton Lake Bobcats vs. Farwell Eagles

Houghton Lake hasn't had much luck against Farwell recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bobcats will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Houghton Lake is headed out to face Farwell after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Bobcats put the hurt on Harrison with a sharp 17-5 win on Friday.

Melanie Muringer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Muringer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Megan Houserman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. MaKenna Raden was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

13 must be Farwell's lucky number: they beat Merrill with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Eagles beat the Vandals by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-5. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Vandals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Houghton Lake might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Farwell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
