Baseball Recap: South Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

South had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Mira Monte Lions. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

South got a great performance from Jose Encinas as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Encinas, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tomas Encinas, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

South's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mira Monte, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South will welcome Woodlake at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mira Monte, they will be playing at home against Santa Maria at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Santa Maria is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
