Volleyball Recap: Richland Royals vs. Monterey Plainsmen
Richland saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of the Monterey Plainsmen by a score of 2-1. The Royals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Adeline Pace paced Richland's offense, picking up 11 kills. Pace got some help from Reece Jackson and her 23 assists. Finally, Shay Johnson kept Richland's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
Monterey found their leader in freshman Elly Varghese, who had four digs and three aces. Those three aces set a new season-high mark for Varghese. Ashlynn Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.
Richland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Monterey, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Richland will challenge South Grand Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monterey, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Bell on the 23rd.
