Softball Recap: Calloway County Victorious

Calloway County hadn't done well against Christian County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lakers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Colonels 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Hailee Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emerson Herndon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Lyla Ward also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Calloway County's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10. As for Christian County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-11-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Calloway County will face off against Caldwell County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Christian County, they will take on Paducah Tilghman at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
