Volleyball Recap: Southview Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Southview unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Lake Flyers on Saturday. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Flyers from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Southview took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

Avery Valdez paced Southview's offense, picking up six kills. Valdez got some help from Skylar Helvey and her eight assists. Cam Rachko controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Southview will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Whitmer at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be the Cougars' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Lake, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against St. Ursula Academy on the 18th.
