Softball Preview: Academy-Notre Dame De Namur vs. Academy of the New Church Lions
Academy-Notre Dame De Namur will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Academy of the New Church Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Academy-Notre Dame De Namur came up short against William Penn Charter on Tuesday, falling 19-4. Academy-Notre Dame De Namur hasn't had much luck with William Penn Charter recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Meanwhile, Academy of the New Church strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Swenson Arts & Tech get on the board and left with a 10-0 win.
Maddie Conlon and Jamie Madara made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Conlon struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Madara tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Conlon has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Conlon went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Madara got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Madara a new career-high.
In other batting news, Isabella Furness was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Schriver, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Everything went Academy-Notre Dame De Namur's way against Academy of the New Church in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, as Academy-Notre Dame De Namur made off with an 11-1 victory.
