Softball Recap: Fitch Has No Trouble Against Montville

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Waterford, Fitch was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Montville Wolves 16-3. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hailey Merrill made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Katie MacPherson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Cosmopoulos, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Fitch pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Montville, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9.

As of now, neither Fitch nor the Wolves have any future games scheduled.
