Football Recap: Tanner Austin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sunrise Mountain over Yuma Catholic

Sunrise Mountain had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it four. They fell just short of the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks by a score of 25-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since September 13, 2024.

Sunrise Mountain lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tanner Austin, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one touchdown. Sunrise Mountain also got help from Logan Russell, who showed off his sure hands for 88 receiving yards.

As for Yuma Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two points across that stretch.

A big part of Yuma Catholic's victory came down to the chemistry between Nash Ott and his top target Brody Amon. Ott threw for 220 yards and three TDs while Amon picked up 73 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Ott racked up 125 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Sunrise Mountain didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 40-0 win against Willow Canyon on the 10th. As for Yuma Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 30-7 victory against Cactus on the 10th.
