Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Southridge Raiders
Mt. Vernon lost to Southridge back in January of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wildcats took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon saw an underclassman step up: freshman Stella Hall posted nine points and five boards.
Saydee Arnold had another great game (as she tends to do), almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds for Southridge. Arnold has become a key player for the Raiders: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 1-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Blessinger, who scored nine points.
Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Southridge, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.
Coming up, Mt. Vernon is taking a road trip to square off against Heritage Hills at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Southridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northeast Dubois at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
