Baseball Game Preview: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Carmel Greyhounds

The McCutcheon Mavericks will venture away from home to take on the Carmel Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Lafayette Jefferson hit McCutcheon with a eight-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mavericks lost 12-1 to the Bronchos.

McCutcheon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jon Riley, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Carmel faced Fishers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Greyhounds had just enough and edged out the Tigers 8-7. The win was nothing new for the Greyhounds as they're now sitting on three straight.

Nathan Rodgers looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Carmel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Carmel's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

McCutcheon came out on top in a nail-biter against Carmel in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
