Baseball Recap: Handley Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fauquier, Handley was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rock Ridge Phoenix a 14-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Judges in their matchups with the Phoenix: they've now won five in a row.

Charlie Allen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Handley is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-5 otherwise. Allen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Donovan VanNatter was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Carson Otto was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Handley's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Rock Ridge, their loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Handley will face off against Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rock Ridge, they will take on Westfield at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
