Basketball Preview: NYOS Charter Jaguars vs. Providence Prep Rams

NYOS Charter is 0-3 against the Rams since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The NYOS Charter Jaguars will look to defend their home court against the Providence Prep Rams at 7:00 p.m. NYOS Charter will stroll in with a seven game home winning streak, but they should still watch out: the last time they lost at home was their December 5 matchup with Providence Prep.

NYOS Charter pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to Meridian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (60), NYOS Charter still had to take the loss.

Despite their defeat, NYOS Charter saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lucas Harman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harman has scored all season. Mark-Anthony Amichia was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.

In what's become a running theme this season, Providence Prep gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They really took it to Memorial Christian Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-22 win at home. With Providence Prep ahead 27-4 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Providence Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asa Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clark Morrison, who scored seven points along with four steals.

NYOS Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Providence Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: NYOS Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Providence Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

NYOS Charter came up short against the Rams in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 44-40. Can NYOS Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
