Football Game Preview: Pottsboro Cardinals vs. Madison Trojans

The Pottsboro Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Madison Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pottsboro has three straight wins, Madison has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Pottsboro's victory against Life Oak Cliff wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Lions 52-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since August 30, 2024.

Pottsboro relied on the efforts of Carson Nix, who rushed for 160 yards and three scores, and Zavier Brady, who picked up 170 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Nix has posted since back in September of 2024. Pottsboro also got help from Garrett Dorris, who showed off his sure hands for 84 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pottsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Madison took a blow against Pilot Point on Friday, falling 55-7.

Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Pottsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Everything went Pottsboro's way against Madison in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Pottsboro made off with a 48-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
