Recap: American Eagles vs. Piedmont Highlanders
This season hasn't been kind to The American Eagles, who are still winless after their ninth game. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 52-30 walloping at the hands of Piedmont on Saturday.
Piedmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Markos Lagios, who threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Tommy Ashton was another key contributor, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
American's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Kennedy and 6-3 Newark Memorial (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.7% over those games). As for Piedmont, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
American will stay at home for another week and welcome Alameda at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Alameda is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Piedmont will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Newark Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
