Naugatuck Valley - Brass recap November 5, 2013

Ansonia added to the longest winning streak in Naugatuck Valley - Brass this week by beating Watertown, 41-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.

Seymour took down Crosby 62-26 last week, the largest margin of any game. Joey Salemme ran for 208 yards during the win.

Wolcott's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Vincient Gambino threw for 253 and 3 touchdowns and Adam Santopietro had 125 yards receiving. On the ground Joseph Lynch chipped in 225 yards. Jayson Matos helped Wolcott's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 43 yards.

Lynch was a beast in the backfield as the Eagles bested Derby.

Lynch was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 225 yards on 26 carries as Wolcott defeated the Red Raiders. Nate Fillipone also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.

Jason Pace's team's Gambino and Santopietro have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gambino has thrown for 2,008 yards this season, while Santopietro has 39 catches for 716 yards. Arkeel Newsome from Ansonia leads the league in rushing with 2,005 yards.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Eagles' Santopietro goes up against Wilby's Kasseme Smith.

Wolcott's Lynch needs only 62 yards against the Wildcats next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 124 carries Lynch has put up 938 yards this year.

One of Naugatuck Valley - Brass' premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Eagles and Wilby face off next week.

Next week's game between Wolcott and Gino Capuano's team will feature a good passing match up as Gambino will test his arm against Smith's defensive ability.

As it stands, the Wildcats are in third, while Thomas Brockett's team is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Seymour takes on the Chargers. Tom Lennon's team has allowed 171 points this season, while Ansonia has given up 123. The Wildcats allowed 26 points last week as they bested the Bulldogs.

The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,902 from 5,822. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 54-27 victory over Derby last week.
