Basketball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. West Brunswick Trojans

Ashley and West Brunswick are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Ashley Screaming Eagle will head out on the road to square off against the West Brunswick Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ashley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully West Brunswick likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Ashley earned a 64-51 win over North Brunswick.

Ashley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quinn Bentley, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 22 points. With that strong performance, Bentley is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Nate Jarrell was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Brunswick, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They secured a 57-53 W over South Brunswick on Thursday. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Cougars are ranked 480th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Brunswick has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points over those games. As for Ashley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-13.

Ashley couldn't quite finish off West Brunswick in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 64-61. Can Ashley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
