Baseball Game Preview: Roncalli Catholic Crimson Pride vs. Ralston Rams

Roncalli Catholic and Ralston are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Crimson Pride will challenge the Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ralston took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Roncalli Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Last Tuesday, Roncalli Catholic got the win against South Sioux City by a conclusive 8-1. The Crimson Pride haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Sean Philbin tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Brady Shetlar was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Dominic Digilio was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Roncalli Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Ralston faced Bennington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Badgers.

Ralston saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Elsasser, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Roncalli Catholic pushed their record up to 4-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ralston, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
