Football Game Preview: Hanover Hornets vs. Genoa-Hugo Pirates

Hanover is 1-8 against Genoa-Hugo since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 1:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Hanover is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Cheyenne Wells on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Hornets were outmatched by the Tigers and fell 75-6. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-6.

Meanwhile, Genoa-Hugo lost 48-27 to Wiley on Friday.

Genoa-Hugo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ryker Lockhart.

Hanover's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Genoa-Hugo, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything came up roses for Hanover against Genoa-Hugo in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 58-19 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
