Basketball Game Preview: Santa Ynez Pirates vs. Cabrillo Conquistadores

Santa Ynez and Cabrillo are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Santa Ynez Pirates will host the Cabrillo Conquistadores at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Santa Ynez sitting on nine straight wins and Cabrillo on three.

On Friday, Santa Ynez humbled Morro Bay with a 77-30 victory. Santa Ynez has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 25 points or more this season.

Santa Ynez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucas Ollenburger out in front who posted 13 points and seven boards. Ollenburger is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Gianis, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 14 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cabrillo). They came out on top against Santa Maria by a score of 89-82 on Thursday.

Santa Ynez's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points over those games. As for Cabrillo, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.

Santa Ynez strolled past Cabrillo in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 59-44. Will Santa Ynez repeat their success, or does Cabrillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
