Basketball Recap: Monarch Coyotes vs. Broomfield Eagles
The Monarch Coyotes's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Regis Jesuit Raiders on Tuesday. Monarch came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 81-74. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Van Nellessen was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Carlson, who scored 17 points.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Blaes Kane, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kane has scored all season. Ethan Zufall was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Even though they lost, Broomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Monarch's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Broomfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monarch will challenge the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Fairview is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.5 points per game this season. As for Broomfield, they will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Boulder is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
