Basketball Recap: Caprock Academy Takes a Loss

Caprock Academy fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Olathe on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 76-75 to the Olathe Pirates. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Justin Hardies, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. Hardies is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zach Jordan, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Caprock Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Isaiah Gordon was his usual excellent self, putting up 45 points and five steals for Olathe. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gordon has scored at least a third of Olathe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Gordon, who posted 11 points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

Caprock Academy's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Olathe, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Caprock Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-47 defeat against Nucla on the 13th. As for Olathe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-54 loss against Grand Valley on the 13th.
