Softball Recap: Highland Takes Down Ranked Mountain View

Highland faced Mountain View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Rams came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 5-2. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered an 18-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

McKenna Sutton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. As for Mountain View, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-7.

Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mountain View, they will venture away from home to square off against Owyhee at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. The Storm are coming into the match with 19 straight wins at home, so the Mavericks will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
