Softball Game Preview: South Beloit Sobos vs. Alden-Hebron Green Giants

For the second straight game, South Beloit will face off against Alden-Hebron. The Sobos will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Green Giants at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Beloit has six straight victories, Alden-Hebron has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

South Beloit is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Alden-Hebron 21-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Sobos, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Macey Lineman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, South Beloit got a massive performance out of Annabelle Dascher, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Dascher a new career-high in doubles (two). Taniyah Crawford was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

South Beloit was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .550. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in six consecutive contests.

South Beloit's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alden-Hebron, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Alden-Hebron's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Beloit has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489.
