Baseball Recap: Jay Has No Trouble Against Baker

Jay never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past the Baker Gators 10-0. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Hayden Morris was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jay is undefeated when Morris posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brady Godwin and Cooper Harrison did most of the damage at the plate: Godwin went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Harrison went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Godwin has posted since back in February. Jax Lowery was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Jay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

With the victory, Jay broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-10. As for Baker, their record is now 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jay will venture away from home to challenge Destin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sharks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.69 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Baker, they will head out to take on Santa Rosa Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Rosa Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Baker surely won't give up without a fight.
