Basketball Recap: Skyler Snead's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Laurens over Jefferson County

East Laurens was the 69-45 winner over Jefferson County when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The East Laurens Falcons took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson County Warriors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Falcons came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Warriors are ranked 448th).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Skyler Snead, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave Snead a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Bryson Hazley, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, East Laurens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

East Laurens' defeat dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Jefferson County, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-17.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Dodge County the next time they take the court. East Laurens will head out to face Dodge County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Jefferson County will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
