Softball Recap: Pensacola Comes Up Short

Pensacola was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays. Even if the Tigers couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Alexiah Federico was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Arieyanna Kirkland was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Reigna Robinson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Pensacola's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.

Coming up, Pensacola is taking a road trip to take on Flomaton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.78 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, they will welcome Atmore Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
