Basketball Recap: La Costa Canyon Comes Up Short

If La Costa Canyon was feeling good fresh off their 77-53 takedown of Steele Canyon last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The La Costa Canyon Mavericks fell just short of the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns by a score of 63-61 on Wednesday. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Longhorns apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Rancho Buena Vista had a senior duo take command as Matthew Horn went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals and Ayden Horn went 6 for 12 on his way to 18 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Justice, who posted eight points.

The defeat snapped La Costa Canyon's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-9 record. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their record is now 11-7.

La Costa Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-63 loss against Carlsbad on the 17th. Rancho Buena Vista has also already played their next contest, a 71-32 defeat against El Camino on the 17th.
