Softball Recap: Crawford County Comes Up Short

Crawford County extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They came up short against the Henryville Hornets, falling 13-1. If the Wolfpack were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Hornets when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Henryville, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

For Henryville's part, Emma McAfee made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McAfee has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cheyenne Dobbs, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie McAfee, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crawford County will face off against Shoals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolfpack are facing the Jug Rox at the right time seeing as the Jug Rox are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Henryville, they will square off against Madison at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Cubs will have lost three straight heading into Friday's match.
