Meanwhile, Calaveras got the win against Riverbank on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Red Hawks have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kamryn Thornburg and Mariah Maddock were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Thornburg struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Maddock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thornburg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Thornburg went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI, while Maddock went 1-for-2 with three runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Rylie Shields was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kendra Baechler, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Calaveras is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Big Valley Christian, their record is now 10-15.
Both Big Valley Christian and Calaveras just can't seem to miss. The Lions have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Calaveras struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Big Valley Christian suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Calaveras in their previous matchup on April 7th. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
