Avon Park hasn't had much luck against Frostproof recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Avon Park Red Devils will be playing at home against the Frostproof Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
Avon Park is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Lake Wales on Thursday. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Red Devils' first of the season.
Avon Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Janely Ayala, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Thursday. Everything went Frostproof's way against DeSoto County as Frostproof made off with a 19-9 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Frostproof.
Jordan Brantley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in triples.
In other batting news, Caitlynn Martinez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shalayjah Robey, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Frostproof always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DeSoto County only posted an OBP of .452.
Frostproof pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs over those games. As for Avon Park, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Avon Park came out on top in a nail-biter against Frostproof in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will Avon Park repeat their success, or does Frostproof have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
